Our rules
Our Members' Lounge is a place to chat, share ideas and enjoy being part of the club. A little common sense and good humour go a long way, but please keep these rules in mind: 1. Be respectful Treat other members as you would if you were chatting over a drink in the clubhouse. Friendly banter is welcome; personal attacks, bullying and abuse are not. 2. Keep it friendly Not everyone will agree on everything, and that's perfectly fine. Challenge ideas if you like, but leave the boxing gloves at home when it comes to fellow members. 3. Stay on topic A bit of conversation drift is only natural, but let's not turn every discussion into a debate about the weather, football or how rink six was the reason for the poor score...again. 4. No spam or excessive promotion Please don't turn The Lounge into a marketplace. If every post sounds like a sales pitch, it's probably not the right place for it. 5. Protect everyone's privacy What happens in The Lounge should largely stay in the Lounge. Don't share anyone's personal details, private messages or photos without their permission. 6. Use appropriate language If you wouldn't be comfortable saying it in a room full of members, it's probably best not to post it here either. 7. No inappropriate or illegal content This is a Members' Lounge, not the Wild West. Please keep content legal, decent and suitable for a club community. 8. Share information responsibly Before pressing "Post", give facts a quick sense check and don't believe everything you read on the internet... If someone asks where a piece of information came from, please be happy to point them in the right direction. 9. Report concerns, don't escalate them If you spot a problem, let an Admin know. Playing keyboard police usually creates more work for everyone. 10. Follow admin guidance Our Admins are fellow members who volunteer their time to keep things running smoothly. They may not wear capes, but please treat their decisions with respect. 11. Have fun and be inclusive The Lounge is here to bring members together. Make people feel welcome, join in, and help create the sort of community you'd want to be part of yourself. 12. There's a real person behind the screen Remember The Lounge is full of real SBC club members, not a random in Belarus you're playing sudoku with. Please be kind, patient and remember that nobody has ever won an online argument and looked cool doing it. 13. Keep political and controversial discussions in check If a discussion reaches the point where members are typing "With all due respect..." then there is a fair chance all due respect has already left the building. 14. Think before you post A good rule of thumb: if you're angry, frustrated just back from a 6-hour session in the clubhouse or three drafts into a strongly worded reply, it might be worth taking a breath, making a cup of tea or even sleeping on it first. The club reserves the right to remove posts or comments that breach these guidelines and, where necessary, suspend or remove access to The Members' Lounge.
